Coaxial cable, or coax, is an electrical cable with an inner conductor surrounded by a flexible, tubular insulating layer, surrounded by a tubular conducting shield. The term coaxial comes from the inner conductor and the outer shield sharing the same geometric axis.
Coaxial cable is used as a transmission line for radio frequencysignals, in applications such as connecting radio transmitters andreceivers with their antennas, computer network (Internet) connections, and distributing cable television signals. One advantage of coax over other types of radio transmission line is that in an ideal coaxial cable the electromagnetic field carrying the signal exists only in the space between the inner and outer conductors.
For the implementation of the Ground station LMR-400 types of Coaxial cables have been selected to carry the signals received by the four crossed yagi antennae to the the Circuitry.
RF-Connectors
In order to connect a RF circuit to the coaxial cable or vice -versa or to connect two coaxial cables without much loss of RF power,we need to use special connectors called RF connectors. These connectors come in variety of series such as SMA ,N-type , SO239 etc.The choice of the connectors are made purely on the basis of power to be handled and physical dimensions of the RF-system.
